Letter from the President

Greetings, SETA Members

Sheron Morgan, SETA President
It is with my gratitude and commitment that I greet you as the President of SETA! I want to thank the board and members for their confidence, my predecessors for their steadfast leadership, and all of you—our members for your dedication to shaping the future of our labor force.

We are at a turning point in the history of workforce development. However, as workforce professionals we must remain resilient in a climate of a growing economy, low unemployment rates and millions of job vacancies throughout the United States.

The future of the workforce is not approaching us, it is here right now! As a result of artificial intelligence and automation our labor market is swiftly shifting to a more digital economy requiring the need for a more skilled workforce. This pivotal moment has exposed the skills gap crisis across the nation. However, we know when there is change, there is also opportunity! So, as the labor market emerges, so will SETA…! I want to ensure that all conference members and attendees leave our event with as much knowledge, understanding and professional connections as possible! SETA is a leading organization for the workforce of professionals.

As President, the Board and I will focus on ensuring you are ready for the job seekers and businesses that you serve. In the coming months we will remain your source for workforce information to include:

Emerging Priorities

  • AI and Automation: Understanding their impact on jobs, credential attainment and skills needs.
  • Remote Service Delivery Models: Balancing virtual and in-person customer engagement effectively.
  • Sustainability of Funding Streams: Preparing for shifting priorities or limited resources.
  • Credential Inflation: Aligning training with apprenticeship opportunities, industry recognized credentials and competency-based certifications endorsed by industry associations, which leads to rapid employment.
  • Youth Engagement Challenges: Specifically disconnected or high-barrier to employment populations needed for future job placement.
  • Retention of Workforce Staff: Preventing burnout and creating clear internal career ladders and succession planning for an organization with a team approaching succession.
These are more than workforce development challenges—it is a critical moment for future generations of workforce professionals.

During my term, I will lead efforts to broaden our outreach, advocacy, continue to modernize our member resources and forge partnerships that elevate our collective voice.

But after more than 20 years, as a workforce professional I did not get from the frontline to executive leadership alone. Therefore, I know I cannot do it without you! It will take all of us—the Board and our members! I need your support as we work to exceed our goals for this AWESOME organization.

Let’s rise to that challenge together by submitting proposals, maintaining your annual membership and sharing the good news about SETA! I am looking forward to meeting all of you!

Thank you,

Sheron Morgan
SETA President
